Magnets For Name Badges: Simplify Parties And Networking
Whether you're hosting a party, attending a networking event, or organizing a corporate gathering, name badges are a must. But let’s be honest—traditional name tags can be a hassle. Safety pins poke holes in your clothes, adhesive stickers peel off too easily, and flimsy clips never seem to stay put.
That’s where magnet name badges come in. These sleek, reusable, and fabric-friendly alternatives make it easy to introduce yourself while keeping your outfit intact. No more wardrobe mishaps or fumbling with awkward pins—just a secure, stylish, and practical solution for any event.

Advantages of Magnet Name Badges
Magnet name badges are often the superior, safer, reusable alternative to push-pin name badges and self-adhesive Hello, My Name Is name tags.
Four big reasons these magnet options are the better choice:
- They’re better for your clothes. Name tags badges with safety pins push through your clothing, leaving unsightly holes. Magnets don’t damage the fabric, which can extend the lifespan of your clothing.
- They increase safety. Safety pins might be called “safety,” but they can be dangerous! Those sharp points can pierce the skin, leading to injury.
- They’re durable. Magnets are incredibly durable. Safety pins, on the other hand, can become bent or broken if they’re stepped on or damaged, making them virtually unusable.
- They’re easier to put on and take off. Putting on a name badge with a safety pin requires a certain level of dexterity, making them challenging for individuals with physical disabilities. But magnetic name tags quickly attach and detach, making them a convenient alternative.
How to Create Your Own DIY Magnet Name Tags

Here’s the simple version of how to use magnets for name badges:
Step 1: Write your name on card stock.
Step 2: Place a magnet on top of the card stock.
Step 3: Place a magnet behind your article of clothing.
Step 4: Align the two magnets so the card stock is between them.

Magnets For Name Badges
You can’t use any old magnet to create name badges. Instead, you’re looking for just the right size and strength.
You want something small enough to fit inside your clothing, but strong enough to pull through a sweater or coat, if necessary. At the same time, the magnet should also be weak enough to quickly put on and take off.
Like we said, it has to be just right!
With that in mind, here are two of the best magnets for name badges:
Neodymium Disc Magnets
Option 1: These ⅜” x ⅛” neodymium disc magnets are a great option for name badge magnets. They’re small enough to fit within your clothing, but strong enough that your name tag won’t fall off if you accidentally bump against it.
Magnet Details:
- Dimensions: 3/8" diameter x 1/8" thick (9.5mm diameter x 3.2mm thick)

- Pull Force: 4.6 pounds
Neodymium Block Magnets
Option 2: These ⅜” x ⅜” neodymium block magnets are small but mighty, offering 5.2 pounds of pull force. These are especially useful for holiday parties, where individuals might wear multiple layers or thick sweaters while indoors.

Safety Warning: Magnets can be dangerous. Neodymium magnets, especially, must be handled with care to avoid personal injury and damage to the magnets. Fingers and other body parts can get severely pinched between two attracting magnets. Bones can be broken by larger magnets. Visit our Magnet Safety page to learn more.
